Slim pickings this week in the land of opportunity!
However, this musty old school book will be given a new lease of life though
(apparently a dusting of bicarbonate of soda and a night in a sealed contained will de-smell it?)
Just look at the wonderful Jan Pienkowski illustrations
A flying patchwork quilt
Crazy-about-cats-Claudine is going to love these framed up and on the wall
Hopefully you love this illustrations as much as me or you'll be bored by now!
Ok, last one...
I also picked up this blast-from-the-past
All you pre milk-stealing-Thatcher era Brits will recognise this mini bottle for milk, provided for every school child, in Yorkshire served lukewarm with a custard cream for morning tea!
The op-shop lady told me they never had these bottles in NZ. I love the idea that some nostalgic person couldn't bear to leave this reminder of the old country behind when they emigrated.
And finally...
The first of what I hope will be a new collection-of Crown Lynn single colour tea cups and saucers, this in my fave shade of pale green!
Do come and play along with us all @ Sophie Isobel's place
ps I forgot to draw for the knitted blanket from last weeks op-shopping post-number 6 Hazel and Blue, let me know your details :0)

Max, those cat illustrations are so vivid even thought they're in silhouette - I'm really taken with them and they really will look utterly fab framed and displayed :-)
ReplyDeleteMy Mum has a dozen of the little school milk bottles she uses to store buttons in - I missed out on school milk though, sadly! Love your cup and saucer, great find!
Jem xXx
We had those bottles of morning play-time milk in Western Australia, unfortunately they were always left in the hot sun and were almost rotten by the time we got to them! the Nuns would make us drink them and I was nearly always sick afterwards!
ReplyDeleteJan Pienkowski illustrations fab and very sought after too. thanks for tip about
bicarb Max...I never knew x
Anything green is great with me too and thanks for the get rid of smelly books tip.I used to have a couple of the lareger glass milk bottles and the mini size baby ones (vintage) wish I still had them.Love the little one you have, so cute.
ReplyDeleteExquisite illustrations in that book, they seem to sum up my tastes in art perfectly. I HATED milk as a child and felt nauseous every day when I had to pierce that layer of cream with a pink or blue straw, yuk! Lovely teacup, good luck with sourcing more. Lucy x
ReplyDeleteWonderful illustrations. Happy to hear they are getting new life out in the open where they can be appreciated. It may take more than a day in the bicarb to get odors out. I'd leave it a minimum of 3. You can also try popping it into the freezer overnight beforehand to kill off any still living mold or book bugs.
ReplyDeleteI live in the US Dairy land and we never had glass mini bottles of milk. I am jealous.
Best wishes on your new collection and good hunting!
Okay, I'm loving on the cat pages! Those are adorable. I love the story of the mini bottles of milk. When I was in school we drank our milk from square little cardboard boxes. Boring in comparison to your mini milk bottles. Love them! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful set of illustrations! My favorite one is of the person chasing the butterfly... such beautiful colors and contrast with the silhouette. Definitely not slim pickings in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteHi Max, thank you for letting me know about your fab knitted blanket. I am so chuffed! Can't wait to blog about it. I have sent you an email. Bxx
ReplyDeleteLove your finds! Especially the milk bottle. Reminds me a bit of the (bigger) milk bottles that were delivered to our door when I was a wee thing. With foil caps :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE Crown Lynn and have a growing collection xxx
