Op-shop finds of the week

This week I thought I'd show you what an average op-shopping week is like in our house.

Me "urgh, what did you buy that thing for?"

Him Big, happy, eager puppy eyes.

Me "oh, ok, you can keep it, sigh *eyes rolling*"

Him "oh good cause it's a Grant Featherstone Taua dining chair"
(mid-century Aussie designer)

Me "ooooooooo, cool!"

Him "what did you get?"

Me "this"

 Him "what is it"

Me "um, a cutesy table cloth with a small hole"

Him "oh, hmm, cool..."

Later in the week...

Him "look what I got!"

Me "not more brown pottery, urgh!"

Him Big, happy, eager puppy eyes

Me "what?"

Him "that's an early Len Castle, a David Leach, a Warren Tippett and a Peter Stitchbury... "
(God of NZ studio pottery, famous UK potter and a couple of other only slightly less god-like NZ potters)

Me "oh sheet, really, wow!"

Him "what d'ya get?

Me "This"

Him "a book about a talking hamster, urm...cool..."

And finally, yesterday...

Him " look what I got"

Me "oh my freakin gosh, that's a thingy print by Leo Bensemen, from that book, you know..."

Him "yes it is the Ball Dancer print by Leo Bensemen from the (rare and expensive) Fantasia book"

       Both "whoo hooo"

       Him "...and you?"

Me "Pwetty mum and claud matching mohair scarves"

Him "aww you get all the best stuff"

  5. Oh, I am so jealous that your husband likes to go thrifting! He has quite an eye, too! My husband only appreciates the big ticket items I get for cheap. I guess you can't blame him, though!

  6. My OH just goes straight to the book section, picks up a few books and reads the back before saying "have you finished looking?"
I loved the way you presented this, a bit of self-depreciation always makes me smile.

  8. I hope I can say this without giving your husband a big head Max...but he really does have the most impeccable taste...in my humble opinion anyway...

  9. You got a Grant Featherstone from an op shop? I'm hitting my head repeatedly on my desk! Those things are worth a fortune over here. Need to go and have a little lie down now...

  11. I didn't mention that this was his 2nd grant featherstone find, the previous one being a set of 6 dining chairs! The plan is to have it recovered in something more modernistic, prob. red wool for his Christmas prezzie. Adding to the above, he came home last night having heard about a local pottery collectors collection being sold at a garage sale by her daughter...Byron Temple and a whole load of other famous, expensive international potters work, for $15 all up, sigh!
