A pea tee-pee for a sweetpea

twine, bamboo poles, a packet of climbing sugar snap peas. add 10 weeks and by christmas we should have an edible den for our little pea-freak-den-loving sweet pea. i'm still thinking on a homemade birthday present for 2012. it might be a dolly sized ring-sling to cart her 'babies' around in, although i was thinking that might be a good present-for-when-the-baby-brother-is-born. here are last year's homemade birthday present and last years homemade christmas present for our wee  christmas baby big girl. What would you give to a three year old who's mother wants to avoid further trippy-over-plastic-junk in the house? Would you like an edible tea pee (I would!)?

  2. sounds awesome. If you have a big tree you could also make one of those gorgeous hanging teepees from a hoola hoop! I SO agree about plastic junk. We also love audio books in this house xx

    1. i've seen those, but i don't think any of our trees apart from the one the swing is in would be high enough. now, an audio book, that is a good idea, especially if i get her one of her favourite stories, harry the dirty dog or the tiger that came to tea. excellent idea Miriam, thanks x

  6. That will be perfect! You could do a makeover on a dolls cot and make the bedding.... or make a dolls diaper bag with all the bits to go in it.
I know how you feel about trying to avoid the plastic collecting at christmas and birthdays.... this year I made a couple of elasticated necklaces and went halves in some wooden dollhouse furniture with my mum... she was stoked :) ( wooden toys can be so expensive, but worth the investment if you can find someone to pay half the cost )

    1. ooh do! I've got yates climbing sugar snap peas (though i hear the kings seeds ones taste amazing) and they're ready to eat in 8-1o weeks. if you soak the peas overnight before planting that'll give you a weeks head start too. if you successive sow, about a week or so after the initial sowing you'll get pretty flowers at the same time as the edible pods (and more peas for new year den parties!

  9. Too true on the tripping over plastic toys indoors! I've just made teepees in the garden for toms and got half way through the one for peas before bub woke up early (argh)... trying again tomorrow nap time!

  10. Oh the old plastic toy mountain, the bane of my life! Thankfully mine are getting older and moving on, so now we just have endless Xbox games... Bit sad that they don't play with toys much anymore, except Littlest.
Love your edible teepee, and your beautiful Sweetpea! xxx

    1. true, seeing a little kid playing with a toy with imagination is beautiful, in a way i imagine xbox-ing is not, regardless of the clutter factor!

  11. Hello!! I LOVE peas and I especially love tee pees with peas!! I only hat the way my kids eat them all before I do! (No I don't really hate it of course, but they DO tend to eat the whole lot in one sitting. My tee pee was sposed to be massively huge this year so the supply would be bountiful and ongoing.. but so far not going quite like that!
Me oh my she's grown, that girl of yours!

Does she have a play kitchen? That's what Iris plays with on a daily basis.

  12. What a great idea. I am about to put in a vege patch here. Something like this in the garden would be fantastic for the holidays.
I have so many ideas pinned http://pinterest.com/mealyandi/ I have no idea what I am making for my two this year, but have plans of it being handmade.
Thanks for visiting my little blog.
