Happy birthday, erm, "princess"

a couple of day before christmas claudine turned three! three! THREE!
we gave her the much longed for bunny. claud christened her "princess ballerina". at three parental taste and advice is outgrown. we call her princess for short. we are all in love (though a little alarmed at the rapid eating of her hutch?!)
she had a tea party with all her pals, inside at the last minute due to the sudden onset of drizzle, drinking pink fizz from teacups and eating pink cake. my finest cake moment to date (it tasted wonderful!).
pin the pom pom on the bunny was a hit-and i love that i have a birthday commemorating tea towel to use as we wrote all the kids guesses and names on in fabric pen.
claud gave us a present the next day, and we are still all astonishment. she announced she wanted to wear knickers and refused nappies point blank.
thanks claud x

    1. why thank you! did you recognize the wee cloth birdies on the table there?!!! they were to have hung in the tree outside but instead pecked at crumbs of cake on the table and managed to avoid being pink fizzed. so beautiful x

  4. Aw, what a cute party. :)

I've had pet rabbits since I was 10 years old, so I'm used to them doing odd things. If your bunny is just chewing on the hutch, I wouldn't worry-They need to chew to keep their teeth wearing right. You could try giving her other things to chew on, like hay or the rabbit chew toys that they sell at pet stores. She might still prefer the hutch, but that will slow her down a little.

    1. Hi Kyle, thank you so much! we were a bit worried she was trying to chew her way out of the hutch even though she seems contented generally. she had hay and apple branches to nibble on-but we have since got her some toys which she seems to like to chew best of all (perhaps she prefers the texture) so the hutch-eating HAS slowed considerably, phew!

  8. I love how Princess Ballerina's eyes match Claud's pj's!! Fantastic cake, well done you! My kids at 10 & 12 still remember most of the b-day cakes we made them, which is lovely considering the late nights involved with much stressing from the mother and decorating from the father!! S:)

    1. it is quite a process cake baking isn't it ,but so worth it. claud was FIXATED on the icing bunny (which to my eye looked more like a squirrel) i made and was desperate to eat it. i think getting to eat it was a very close second to getting the actual bunny in the birthday excitement stakes!

  9. What a beautiful little girl you have, she is just gorgeous and I love her birthday cake, that would be my ideal cake. I love hearing children's names for their pets, Claud's suggestion is far more adventurous than my cousins who named their fish after themselves!
Speaking as a long term bunny owner, the chewing is part and parcel, one of the joys of bunny ownership or in our case, being bunny whipped. They will chew whatever they pass, our Bob specialises in drive by chewings. One thing he loves is an old telephone directory, it keeps him busy for hours.

    1. drive-by chewings. bunny whipped. heh! you crack me up melanie!!! i suspect we are on the verge of being bunny whipped-a long list of toys and other bunny entertainments to be made is being compiled as we speak; the purchase of a little dwarf friend for princess ballerina so she doesn't get lonely has already been agreed. indoor playtimes to avoid the outdoor cat have been instituted AND the husband has drawn up plans for a larger more luxurious hutch...oh dear!
      ps telephone directory-inspired idea!

    2. Bunnies are never cheap! I'm sure they could do without shop purchased goodies, but what's the fun in that? I love shopping for gifts, Bob got a chewable hanging basket for his gift but the lazy so and so tried to chew it down so he didn't have to work for it! Another thing is toilet roll or kitchen towel tubes stuffed with hay, it keeps Bob occupied wonderfully and that's saying something, he's usually on the make the whole time for crumbs or food or trying to eat the walls or doors. Oh yes, and cardboard boxes too, cut doors and windows in and they'll then make their own improvements.

  11. That photo of Claud with Princess Ballerina (full title, notice!) is too cute. And the birthday cake looks mighty professional. Speaking as someone who had at least one child in nappies at any given time for SEVEN WHOLE YEARS, be very very glad that Claud decided to get into pants before wee Baby No. 2 arrived! xxxx
