Straight from the geography teachers drawer, circa 1960-something.
I like this world map stamp as a maptastic bit of decorative treen, but I'm also thinking wrapping paper; Claud colouring in-geography lessons, and, maybe, even, wallpaper...!?
Nah, I'd never get away with it, much as I'd like!
What would you do with it?
Found these too, the very next day.
gorgeous colours and thick paper, took me age to date it to 1978
(when the Ellice is. became Tuuvalu but the Gilbert Is. had not yet become Kirabati-in 1979)
just one of a pile, yuss!
Isn't this one a sweetie
And while we're on the subject, have a look at what the op-shopper extrordinaire
Kylie sent me a wee while ago.
A map table cloth!
Which, as maps do, provides important geographically information.
(I live slap(per) bang where the fastest girls reside!)
As for poor Kylie
Thanks darl!

Hilarious tablecloth! That Kylie.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen anything like your map stamp ... definitely wrapping-paper potential.
And I can't believe you dated that map from your own historical/national research/knowledge. Clever lass.
me either, rendered obsolete by the photocopier no doubt, i wonder where it's been hiding all this time?
Deletehaha, i love that tablecloth!
ReplyDeleterae, according to my map your from where the "wild dogs and hot dogs" roam! perhap the cartographer had seen your pugs after a dropped sausage?!!!
DeleteOoooh I'm a fan of the wallpaper idea!!!! Super gorgeous finds!
ReplyDeleteYes! i'm going to try out my wallpaper idea in the outside toilet first!!!
DeleteWhat a cool stamp! Hehe that tablecloth is only slighty bias no? xx
ReplyDeletebias? sorry, i'm not following?...heh!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant stamp map. Thrift envy all round!!
ReplyDeletewow, that stamp is the best find this year i believe!! i love it, it has so much potential. great find altogether this week max! x
ReplyDeleteIt does have heaps of potential doesn't it, i'm thinking of printing with fabric paint and making cushion covers too!
DeleteOh my I am SO jealous I have been fantasizing about getting a stamp like that for ages....if only you weren't so lovely I could dislike you for your awesomeness
ReplyDeleteyou know what, i reckon if we traced this one onto some copy paper we could print it onto lino and cut one out for you, we could even add some imaginary places, like narnia, atlantis, etc!
DeleteMaps for africa!! You are one heck of a thrifty finder!
ReplyDeletei got it at the mayfield second hand shop, i dont think i'vbe met anyone yet who has been there and left empty handed and i would say its the best one in the south island so if you ever drive south from christchurch do go there x
DeleteThat map stamp should become the logo for everything you do, maybe make a stripy ink pad so it comes out multi-coloured. It's brilliant!
ReplyDeleteMaptastic may have to become a new word. I like it
O am making my own ink pads as it's too big for a standard one, i LOVE the idea of a stripey one-DEFO going to have a go at that x
DeleteGreat maps!
ReplyDeleteI love the stamp, and the tablecloth from Kylie is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLove looking at maps as decorative objects - just don't ask me to read one... unless it's the tablecloth, I can read that! xxx
Stop it! You're killing me man! I'm dying for map madness! I have one tray with and old map on it....that's IT!
ReplyDeletejealous!
bxx
a tray. owww, i dont have a tray. now i want a tray. maybe i could make a map tray? with my stamp? Yes! NICE blog BTW x
DeleteOH my gosh! "Stamping is in the air." I LOVE the giant map stamp! How big is it? Wrapping paper galore! I got a giant roll of news print once, from the old Press building, the roll is still going... wrapping paper for the next 5 years - sorted! they might sell them/give them away for free at the Press building near the airport. What an awesome find!
ReplyDeleteit's a wee bit smaller than a5. great idea re the paper rolls, will get the bloke to pick me one up on his way home, and i scored a massive roll of brown craft paper at the oppy which'll do a grand job too x
DeleteLoving all this mappy goodness! I have a thing for maps too, so am secretly jealous! Especially of the map stamp, which I think I remember from primary school and that wasn't in the 1960's, but the beginning of the next decade! Gosh that ages me!! Sal x
