The post where you give me all your money

We have sponsored a child, now a teenager, in Myanmar for years. When things started to get tight financially, when we shifted to a single salary with a child of our own this was one of the things we contemplated stopping when belt-tightening. Her annual photo, taken by her gradually deteriorating tin shack home close to the border with Thailand, and the proud reporting that the all the parents in her village had been provided with night classes on child sex trafficking thanks in part to our sponsorship, persuaded us we could afford to continue. I only know one other person who sponsored a child. 'her' child, a nine year old girl went 'missing'. After a couple of years of 'missing-whereabouts unknown' reports replacing the photo, academic up-date and child-made picture and message, she was asked to transfer her sponsorship to another child.
Every time i look at my wee Burmese girls photo i think "i hope your alright".
Normally i like to bury my head in the sand about all the doom and gloom in the world, that's why i avoid telly and newspapers for the most part-it feels unnatural and unhealthy to daily be subject to such intensity of violent negativity. But this is different. It's more personal.
As such it was a no-brainer when lovely local blogger Miriam asked if i could make a little something for a draw to raise funds to support an organisation that works to release sex slaves, around the world.
If you scroll down you'll see the kids feather headress i made...it does look better in real life, all oodles of rik-rak and vintage buttons i promise! Imagine, that bit of crafty fluff helping free children trafficked for sex. Amazing! Or will be if you donate!
There's loads of other cool crafted stuff too from other kiwi bloggers if a feather whats-its not your kids thing, but since i'm a little technologically challenged at the moment, i'll suggest you hop over to miriams place http://createhopeinspire.blogspot.co.nz/

to have a gander at what people made and to think about making a donation to a great cause, the doing of which could also land you a big bag of handcrafted goodies (open internationally).

Thanks in anticipation.

  2. great post, thanks for sharing. We sponsor 3 children in India as we have 3 children of our own, we find it so satisfying to the soul to change the lives of 3 children.
